Welcome to our series where we introduce the fantastic members of the Magic Design team.
Today, we'd like to introduce you to Matthew, our talented Project Manager / Art Director, with a special place in his heart for print design.
But first, here's a little visual introduction that Matthew has prepared for you:
I studied Integrated Design, a program where you can try out different design directions in the first three semesters before specializing in one area. I chose 2D design, which is graphics and print.
After graduating, I joined an e-learning startup where I worked as a Design Lead and managed a team. That's where I also discovered my love for Project Management / Art Direction and wanted to further develop in that area.
The advertised role immediately excited me as it perfectly matched my previous responsibilities, but in a more comprehensive context. I found the prospect of gaining a wealth of experiences, learnings, and growth opportunities through this position extremely exciting.
I was particularly impressed by the idea of a design subscription, which I hadn't heard about before. After the trial day, it was clear to me that Magic Design was my definitive favorite.
The initial interview with Max and the trial day in Berlin with Sina and Max were particularly formative for me.
Since I'm rather reserved at first and need to get an overview to see if I feel comfortable, it was all the more pleasant that there was a positive atmosphere from the beginning. We laughed a lot, had good conversations, and I immediately felt very comfortable.
My day always starts with a coffee, followed by preparation for our daily meeting - assigning projects, giving feedback, and distributing tasks.
Then the meeting takes place, where we present the daily to-do list to our designers. Throughout the day, I support my team wherever I can, provide feedback, or prepare print files for clients. For some projects, I also design and support the design process myself.
There are many projects I'm proud of, but if I had to highlight one, it would be the Ostrom billboard at Alexanderplatz in Berlin.
Not necessarily because of the design, which is very simple, but because a large part of our team working in Berlin could experience it firsthand. Since I was also in Berlin at the time, I naturally had to drive by and proudly show it to my girlfriend :D
In general, I'm always excited about projects that you can see, whether virtually or in real life - from websites to a small LinkedIn post or large OOH campaigns.
Every day I learn something new, whether in the print sector or in other design-related areas. This makes the work particularly special for me, because the learning and development never stops.
Through this job, I have grown not only professionally but also personally, and have gained more self-confidence in the process.
The 'Figure it out' approach resonates with me the most, as I deal intensively with print-related topics. Of course, I don't know every detail and sometimes have to look at files multiple times before I fully understand them. This can be a bit of a headache, but so far I've always managed 🤞🏼
The value 'Trust & Reliability' is also very important to me, as the team is like a small family - if someone needs support, they get it quickly and reliably.
If you're thinking about joining Magic Design, I advise you to be open to challenges and approach them with enthusiasm. Be ready to take on new tasks and actively contribute.
Our team greatly appreciates it when you're passionate and engaged. We want to see the sparkle in your eyes when you talk about design. This attitude will not only help you grow, but also contribute to your success in our supportive and creative environment. ;)
I'm a proud dog dad of a 1.5-year-old Labrador, who sometimes still acts like a little child. That's why my girlfriend and I train with him a lot. I also enjoy playing video games and have recently started exercising regularly.
Finding a solution to problems in seconds :D
